STATE 3A, 2A GOLF: Bonners' Braylyn Bayer leads after first day

RATHDRUM — Bonners Ferry senior Braylyn Bayer shot a 6-over-par 78 on Monday for a two-shot lead after the first round of the state 3A girls golf tournament at Twin Lakes Village Golf Club.

Her twin sister, Avery Bayer, is tied for sixth heading into the final round after shooting 87.

Bonners Ferry’s girls, state champions last year and in 2021, are in second place with a 399. Kimberly leads comfortably after shooting 340.

In the boys tournament, Eli Blackmore of Bonners Ferry is tied for 11th after shooting 86. The Badgers are in sixth place out of seven teams after the first day. Filer shot 328 and leads by 12 over Homedale.

The tourney concludes today, with the boys and girls final groups going off at 10:40 a.m. — the boys from No. 10, the girls from No. 1.

First round suspended due to darkness

WORLEY — Palmer Coleman of Priest River shot a 4-over-par 76 for a two-shot lead after the first day of the state 2A boys golf tournament at Circling Raven Golf Club.

A handful of players did not finish the first round due to darkness. Those players will resume their first round today at 7:30 a.m., with the second round scheduled for 10 a.m. Today’s first round began at noon.

Beau Jones of Lakeside shot 79 and was in third place among finishers. Seth Swallows of St. Maries and Byron Hammett each shot 81 and were tied for sixth. Brodie Robinson of Kellogg was tied for eighth with an 83.

In the girls tournament, 36 of the 62 players did not finish the first round.
