GRADUATES: Message from an ORAG

| May 12, 2024 1:00 AM

Dear Kootenai County high school graduates,

As you jump into your future with your graduation I would like to ask you to take a look at service:

Service to your country, state, county and communities.

Our government at every level needs your input, inspiration and help, from the city councils to the White House. I am tired of our country being led by UOGs (us old guys). It is time for the youth of our nation to become involved with their ideas and aspirations to lead us forward for the betterment of all citizens. Please get involved today. When I went to Vietnam in 1967 I couldn’t vote.

If not politics think about becoming a member of our military. As an ORAG (old retired Army guy), I gravitate to suggesting the military because they have the largest training institutions available. You can learn skills that will last you a lifetime plus opportunities for travel and adventure around the world. You will work with the most diversified group of people you will ever find that will enrich your life forever.

If not that, then think about becoming a first responder — we need them everywhere in this country and especially in this county. They are the ones who see everything that happens in real time. It’s tough work but it will reward you with a lifetime of satisfaction.

When you grab that diploma please remember our country needs you today.

SKIP JIRU, ORAG
