Student artists in Cynthia Chapman's painting classes at Lake City High School will present their works to the public during the “Gallery ‘24 — Beauty in the Dark Places, and Running Out of Time” show from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday under the Avista Pavilion in McEuen Park, 420 E. Front Ave., Coeur d'Alene.

"It's a collaborative effort between multiple class periods and our teacher," Lake City student artist Kit Jones said Wednesday. "The majority of this is being student led."

With funds Chapman received through an EXCEL Foundation grant, students have had the opportunity to create an art show from start to finish.

"From choosing ideas for artwork themes to creating the artwork, matting and display, selecting a venue, planning snacks and entertainment — they did it all," Chapman said in a letter to families. "The kids have done an incredible amount of work and organization — I hope you are able to see this show they’ve created!"

“Gallery ‘24 — Beauty in the Dark Places, and Running Out of Time” is free for all to attend. Students will have the option to sell their work. The event will also include music, live demonstrations, games, food and more.

"All the supplies were provided free from the EXCEL Foundation grant, including the paint, canvases, brushes, matting, tape, clips, materials for creating the advertising posters and flyers, etc.," Chapman said. "We are grateful for their generosity and support of the arts."

In case of rain and bad weather, the show will move to the LCHS commons.

Kit and her peers are looking forward to showcasing their work to the community.

“For me, art has always been a form of self-expression and a way to show your individuality," Kit said. "Art is very individual and everyone comes up with their own meaning for it, and it’s really fascinating to see everyone's different interpretations of art."
