Veterans are focus of Town Hall tonight

| May 7, 2024 1:00 AM

Kootenai County Commissioner Bill Brooks will open tonight’s Veterans Town Hall, but not in person.

Brooks, who had his entire left leg amputated last week, has not received medical clearance for public events yet. But Brooks will attend the Town Hall, starting at 6 p.m., via Zoom.

“I set this up well before I knew I was going to need surgery,” Brooks said. “I’ll make some opening remarks and then turn it over to Tom.”

Tom Freeman is director of the county’s Veterans Services Office.

From 6 to 8 p.m., today’s Town Hall will take place in Meeting Room 1A/1B, 451 N. Government Way in Coeur d’Alene.

Experts will impart lots of information about services available to veterans, their families, friends and neighbors.

“This Town Hall is not just for veterans — everyone in Kootenai County at some point will run across a veteran or vet family member in need of assistance,” said Adjutant Sarah Benoit of American Legion Post 143 in Post Falls.

The Veterans Town Hall will also be broadcast live on the county's YouTube channel so people can watch and call in if they wish.
