COEUR d’ALENE — And then, Bam, it was over.

Senior Aidan Blanco threw a no-hitter and senior Chase Saunders and sophomore Bam Fenter drove in four runs each as the second-seeded Coeur d’Alene Vikings beat the third-seeded Lewiston Bengals 11-0 in a semifinal game in the 5A Region 1 tournament at Ted Page Field on Monday.

“Aidan, he’s just been so consistent all year,” said Coeur d’Alene coach Erik Karns, in his fifth year. “There were a few tight moments, but he delivered the pitches that we needed to get out of trouble.”

Blanco struck out four and walked three for Coeur d’Alene (15-9), which travels to Lake City (18-5) for the championship game today at 4 p.m.

“Aidan had his changeup and slider going and really kept them off balance," Karns said. "He’s been really good about locating his fastball when one of the other pitches isn’t working. We’ve thrown him in each big game, and he’s delivered.”

Lake City defeated Post Falls 8-0 in the other semifinal.

“Our kids, we know who we’re going to see and we’re going to have our work cut out for us,” Karns said. “We know it’s going to be a tight game.”

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Saunders hitd a two-run double to make it 8-0 and Fenter followed with a three-run home run to end the game due to the 10-run rule.

“Chase was really our offensive catalyst and was striking the ball well,” Karns said. “For him to step up, it really relaxed our hitters and the young bucks stepped up and delivered. It was good for our guys to play a district game for a state berth.”

Lewiston (13-10) hosts Post Falls (11-11) in a loser-out game today at 4 Church Field.

COEUR d’ALENE — Weather didn’t bother the Timberwolves in their regional opener.

In fact, it was a big reason for their success.

Senior Nate Weatherhead struck out eight and allowed two hits for the top-seeded Timberwolves in a win over the fourth-seeded Trojans in a semifinal game in the 5A Region 1 tournament at Lake City High.

“Nate looked so comfortable and had command of all of his pitches,” second-year Lake City coach Mike Criswell said. “We were confident with Cooper (Smith) behind the plate and the game he called. Nate was the first guy we’ve ran all the way through this season. I was just in command, and I couldn’t take him out. I just couldn’t take the ball out of his hands.”

Lake City (18-5), the 2023 state runner-up, advances to face second-seeded Coeur d’Alene today at 4 p.m.

“Coeur d’Alene can swing it 1 through 9 in their lineup,” Criswell said. “We didn’t have any errors today and that’s how we’re going to have to play. Coeur d’Alene is not afraid to swing the bat. We’re going to have to be really good with our pitches and lock it down defensively.”

Senior Charlie Dixon hit a solo home run in the third inning for Lake City, which took advantage of six walks and six hit batsmen.

Post Falls (11-11) travels to Lewiston for a loser-out game today at Church Field.

“We just didn’t show up to get it done,” Post Falls coach Kurt Reese said. “You can’t walk 11 and win a competitive game. Lake City played a perfect game and took it to us. Hopefully we’ll bounce back from today. It’s going to be a dogfight to see who can get the win out of that one tomorrow.”

Smith, a senior, drove in two runs for Lake City.

MOSCOW — The second-seeded Hawks had their season come to an end with a loss to the third-seeded Bulldogs in a first-round, loser-out game in the 4A Region 1 tournament at the Moscow School District Community Playfields.

Junior Tadgh Ellwood hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning for Lakeland, which finished 9-14. Senior Roan Reilly also drove in two runs for the Hawks.

“They came out and hit the ball quite well and their pitcher did a good job on us,” first-year Lakeland coach Al Bevacqua said. “We had one inning where we didn’t secure the ball enough on defense and it hurt us. But our guys gave me everything they had, and that’s all I can ask for.”

Sandpoint, which took a 2-0 lead on a two-run double by Dallen Williams, extended the advantage to 5-0 on a two-run double by Gavin Day in the fourth inning.

Later, Moscow beat Sandpoint 7-0 in Game 1 of the best-of-3 game championship series. Game 2 is Wednesday at Moscow.
