Nancy Harlocker, 92

| May 5, 2024 1:00 AM

Born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Oct. 7, 1931, they passed away at home in Dalton Gardens, Idaho, on Lei Day, May 1, 2024.  As her family and many friends can attest, Nancy lived a full life. Born and raised in Honolulu, she graduated from Punahou in 1949, sailed by ship across the Pacific to attend San Jose State University, then returned to Honolulu.

Upon returning to the islands, Nancy accepted a temporary writing position with the Honolulu Advertiser, where she remained for 17 years, writing the newspaper's entertainment and social column. “Nancy Harlocker’s Date Book” is a popular column that Honolulu’s entertainment and social elite sought to be recognized. Her interviews included many dignitaries and celebrities. Nancy told us that working as a columnist was the best job ever because she went to college to party and then spent 17 years getting paid by the newspaper to attend parties.

Her family moved to Hilo in 1972, where the Harlocker family had deep family roots. She operated a popular hobby store and raised her children. Nancy moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1992. She loved Idaho, where she established some of the best friends of her life, was active in the Republican party, and enjoyed a full spiritual life while attending St. Pius X Church and later Lutheran Church of the Master.

Nancy is survived by her children: Reid, Anne (Gary) and Susan (Robert); and four grandchildren who brought her much joy: Christian (Jade), Ben, James and Alex.

A memorial will be held later this year. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Hospice of North Idaho (2290 W. Prairie Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815), Companions Animal Center (10275 N. Atlas Road, Hayden, ID 83835), or Lutheran Church of the Master (4800 N. Ramsey Road, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83515).
