SAFETY: Stop these illegal turns
I am writing this letter for the benefit of the entire community.
For about 15 years now the people running the Lakes Highway District have ignored the welfare of the public by bowing to political pressure from businesses such as Del Taco, Starbucks, Verizon and Kohl’s regarding illegal left-hand turns into their parking lot.
They have had drawings on the board to put a concrete barrier down the middle of Prairie Avenue from U.S. 95 in order to keep people from making an illegal left-hand turn from the westbound lane across a double yellow line to get into the parking lot of the shopping center. I know for a fact that there have been many accidents in that area over the years because of this practice yet they refuse to do anything about it.
I am asking them to install a concrete barrier with poles like they have on Ramsey and Prairie to keep people from turning left there in endangering people’s lives. All they have to do is go down another 50 feet and make it completely legal turn onto Mineral and enter that shopping center safely.
There is a board meet for Lakes Highway District on May 6 at their office in Hayden. I am encouraging all of you to show up with signs to show your support when I speak to them that night. This will be a peaceful demonstration of this community support for the safety of its individuals. I hope to see you all there. Bring your signs.
