BORAH: Not just a matter of numbers
I have four kids in the Coeur d’Alene School District. Two of them are at Borah Elementary, the school on the chopping block. We are deeply saddened that the school might close. This would be a huge loss to the students and our community.
My boys have formed close friendships there and are able to safely walk to/from school and our house. I also appreciated Marian’s letter (Don’t take away our kids!). The residents at Bestland would be deprived the joy of seeing the kids as well.
On Earth Day, Borah took the kids to local parks to pick up trash. They are helping to raise a future generation of kind and responsible citizens.
I know the school district is criticized for all kinds of political reasons, but the care and dedication my children have received from teachers and staff is exceptional.
The letter from the district said they were considered for closure because they have the “lowest enrollment.” Borah is so much more than just a number. My sons are more than just a number. Each number represents a family in our community, and families are the future of this town.
