OWL CAFE: Don’t erase local history

This letter is in regard to Ron Dayton’s letter to The Press about demolishing the Owl Café.

Let’s not destroy yet another historical building in Hayden because Butler’s Nazis ate breakfast there. They also shopped at Super 1 and many other stores and restaurants. 

I have lived in this area for 62 years and there is a lot more to that building than who ate breakfast there. Let’s remind people, new people, of what the locals did back then to get rid of the skinheads. 

I know about the atrocities they committed, like harassment of a Jewish business owner I knew. Let’s be proud of the hard work that this community did to oust the racists. 

Praise the locals who fought against their ideology, and continue to fight this hatred today. We must remember our bad history too, so we can fight against it happening again.
