Investigators: Coeur d'Alene house fire was arson
A Coeur d'Alene home is charred following a Tuesday night fire investigators determined was intentionally set.
COEUR d'ALENE — A fire that damaged a Coeur d'Alene home Tuesday night was arson, an investigator said.
"There was evidence to show it was intentionally set," said Craig Etherton, city of Coeur d'Alene fire inspector.
The unoccupied, multiple-level home sustained significant smoke and fire damage, Etherton said. There were no injuries.
The two-alarm blaze on Centennial Place off Hanley Avenue was called in about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday. Firefighters with the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department, Kootenai County Fire and Rescue and Northern Lakes Fire responded. It took about four hours to extinguish the fire, snuff hot spots and clean up.
Etherton said the preliminary investigation determined there "was a likelihood of the fire being intentionally set," so police detectives were called to the scene.
On Wednesday, personnel with the Idaho State Fire Marshals Office joined the investigation, and Spokane County Fire District 4 provided their accelerant detection K-9.
"We have determined that this fire was intentionally set," Etherton said.
An investigation continues.
