RACISTS: We must not let them go

| March 29, 2024 1:00 AM

As a born and raised Coeur d’Alene native, I was heartbroken to hear about the racist treatment the Utah women’s basketball team received in my town. Low-IQ idiots in their redneck trucks spouting racism. Are we going to let this go?

A few years ago, I watched from my downtown office as hundreds of Proud Boys, Three Percenters, and other assorted “men’” with firearms lined the streets of Sherman for a show of misguided masculinity. I was embarrassed. And we let it go.

It bothered me so much that after 70 years I decided to leave Coeur d’Alene and move to Sandpoint to get away from the anger…unfortunately, anger has infested this community, too.

Recently, Proud Boys hiding behind bandana masks piled into a U-Haul for their ill-fated attempt to disrupt an LGBTQ event in the City Park. Though arrested, they all got a slap on the hand. We let the cowards go.

Now we are cursed with local political leaders with their false intellect, as they try to amp up their angry followers with a constant barrage of divisive BS. And we let them go.

Years ago, I played a very small role in helping Coeur d’Alene oust the Neo-Nazi Richard Butler from our community. They were an embarrassment to Coeur d’Alene. At the time, we decided not to let them go.

Maybe this time we citizens, the City Council and local business leaders decide not to let the idiots in the pickups get away with it.
