FAST FIVE: Keaton Lee paints up a storm

Meet Keaton Lee, an 18-year-old custom painter with a shop located in Post Falls. Follow her Instagram @crazy.k.kustomz to see her works.

1) How did you get into the business of custom paints and designs?

I got into the business of custom painting right before I got out of high school. I was in a collision repair class for my junior and senior year. My instructor, Andy Rogge, introduced me to the whole custom paint side of things and I loved it. From there on I started researching and practicing new techniques! And eventually my teacher had me paint my first motorcycle! 

2) What do you love about what you do, and what are a few of your favorite completed projects?

One thing I love about what I do is probably the reign of freedom on all the pieces I paint. Mostly the customer just says a couple colors they want and I get to choose the design, so it makes it really fun being able to do whatever I want and try new things! I think my favorite projects to do are definitely motorcycles, but I just did a 71-year-old fridge and that one was very unique and fun! 

3) What are a few things you are working on now, and what is something you dream about doing with your design talents?

Right now I’m working on a brand new Lowrider ST that Lone-Wolf Harley Davidson in Spokane is having me paint! I am super excited about this one, not only because it’s a cool bike, but because it’s from a dealership, and it’s another great way to get my name out there!

I obviously still have so much to learn, being only 18, but I hope that my artwork takes me far in the future and someday I am known for it! 

4) What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

Some people would be surprised to know that I didn’t grow up in the paint industry at all, nor did my family. I kinda just jumped into the class because I thought it was cool, and here I am now! 

5) What advice do you have for other young entrepreneurs trying to break into their professions and industries?

Some advice I would give to any other young entrepreneurs is just go for it! Take that leap into whatever you want to do! Now is the best time while you are young because you have nothing to lose, and if all else fails you can just go get a job somewhere! And don’t be afraid to ask people for help or advice. Nine times out of 10 people are more than willing to help you!
