Forrest Keith Spencer, 90

Forrest Keith Spencer, 90, of Bremerton, Wash., passed away at his home Feb. 27, 2024, from an extended illness.

Keith as he was known, was born in Spokane, Wash., on Dec. 9, 1933.  He lived in Spirit Lake, Idaho, as a child before moving to Bremerton in 1940. He graduated from Bremerton High School and then went on to Olympic Community College followed by the University of Idaho, where he majored in chemical engineering. He worked for the Boeing Airplane Company for almost 45 years until his retirement. Keith was a member of Manette Community Church in Bremerton and served as a Deacon. He also was part of Olympic Mountain Rescue and worked on multiple editions of the “Climber’s Guide to the Olympic Mountains.” He enjoyed the outdoors, especially tennis, hiking and mountain climbing. He has 10 first ascents for peaks in the Olympic Mountains with an additional 13 first ascents for specific routes (1 in the Tetons). In his 20s, he raced B stock hydroplanes. Keith and his wife, Jan, wrote the book “Historical Spirit Lake, Idaho and Vicinity.”  

He is survived by his wife Jan, children John (Michele), Kathy (Shawn) and Mark, and grandchildren Erin (David) and Shannon (Amy).  

The memorial service will be held at Manette Community Church on March 23 at 1 p.m. Instead of flowers, the family requests that you consider a donation in Keith’s memory to Manette Community Church. A graveside gathering is planned for later in the year at Spirit Lake, Idaho.
