PENDLETON, Ore. — Sophomore Kennedy Hobson and her North Idaho College teammates had a grand old time on Saturday afternoon.

Hobson hit a pair of three-run home runs, then added a grand slam in the fourth inning for the Cardinals, who capped the weekend with a 21-0 and 24-5 sweep of the Blue Mountain Timberwolves in Northwest Athletic Conference play.

“She just had a tremendous day,” said NIC coach Shay Chapman of Hobson, who also allowed two hits over four innings in the second game in the circle. “She’s just seeing the ball well at the plate and making great adjustments.”

Sophomore Kani Korok also hit a grand slam in the second game for NIC (12-2, 4-0 NWAC), which travels to Columbia Basin on Friday.

Kristine Schmidt, a freshman pitcher from Coeur d’Alene High, had five strikeouts in a three-hit shutout in the opener for NIC.

“She just pounded the zone really well and had a great offspeed,” Chapman said. “She threw a lot of outs today and our defense played really well behind her.”

Blue Mountain is 5-13, 1-3.
