LEWISTON — Junior Cobe Cameron and senior Taycen Genatone won three events each, helping the Post Falls Trojans run away with the boys team title at the season-opening Sweeney Invitational on Friday at Vollmer Bowl in Lewiston.

“Overall, it was a great team effort today,” Post Falls coach Wade Quesnell said. “We covered most of the bases today. The depth of our boys team really came through in both the field and running events. We had some really good efforts on the girls side, but just came up a little short.”

Cobe Cameron had wins in the 200- and 400-meter dash, as well as a winning leg of the 4x400 relay. Genatone swept the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles, as well as helped Post Falls in the 4x400 as the Trojans boys compiled 177.5 points.

Coeur d’Alene senior Maddie Mitchell won the 300 hurdles and ran a winning leg of the school’s 4x100 relay, helping the Viking girls claim the team title with 140 points.

Timberlake wins one,

ties in another

FRUITLAND — Senior Grant Allaway delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Tigers in a 6-6 tie with the Pilgrims in the Bill Betts Tournament at Fruitland High.

Timberlake trailed 6-3 entering the bottom of the sixth before Allaway’s single cut the deficit to 6-5. Allaway scored on a two-out single by Ryker Brennan to tie the game at 6-6, before it was ended due to the tournament’s time limit.

“We kind of dug ourselves a hole and knew going into the sixth, we weren’t starting another inning,” Timberlake coach Bryce Johnson said. “We had to make up some ground, and thankfully we did. Ryker, he’s one of those freshmen that’s making the adjustment to varsity, but came up and hit the first pitch he saw. It was just a scrappy outing to get that one.”

Later, seniors Carson Hutson and Caden Robinett drove in two runs each as the Tigers beat Sugar-Salem 6-1.

Robinett struck out seven in 6 ⅔ innings pitched for Timberlake (2-2-1), which faces Fruitland today to conclude the tournament.

“It was a big win for us,” Johnson said. “Every time we can beat them, it means something. Caden had 86 pitches to mess with (he threw 14 in relief on Thursday), and to get through 6 ⅔ innings against that lineup, he was just dominant. He’s a difference maker, and I’m glad we were able to put some runs together around him.”
