'Couragous' Kootenai County kids tour state capitol

| March 13, 2024 1:00 AM

McCall-based "Courageous Kids Climbing" took 12 students from the Idaho School for the Deaf and Blind in Gooding to visit the Idaho State Capitol on Tuesday.

The students hail from the counties of Kootenai, Canyon, Twin Falls, Jerome, Minidoka, Bannock and Bingham.

All of the students are blind and are in the U.S. History and Government program at the school.

The students visited the Capitol to learn how state government works. They met with legislators who talked about their jobs in state government.

The tour was part of a Courageous Kids Climbing program called Climbing On Stuff, which provides opportunities for school age kids who are blind or visually challenged to check out things that they may not normally have the opportunity to check out.

In North Idaho, the kids have learned about law enforcement with the Idaho State Police and Lewiston Police Department, spent an afternoon with the Nez Perce Tribe and checked out race cars at Stateline Speedway in Post Falls.

The kids will be returning to Stateline Speedway on June 1 to check out race cars and hang out with the drivers.
