A Coeur d'Alene man was recently convicted of video voyeurism, intimidating a witness, possession of fentanyl with intent to deliver and possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl, according to a press release from the Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

District Judge Barbara Duggan gave Eric John Burke, 51, the following sentences:

Video Voyeurism: Five years in prison with parole eligibility after three years.

Intimidating a witness: Five years in prison with parole eligibility after three years.

Possession of fentanyl with intent to deliver: Seven years in prison with parole eligibility after three years.

Possession of methamphetamine and possession of fentanyl: Four years in prison for each count with parole eligibility after three years.

“The state takes video voyeurism cases very seriously," said Prosecuting Attorney Stanley T. Mortensen in a press release. "It is never acceptable to violate someone’s privacy by engaging in revengeful behavior and sharing intimate photographs not meant to be shared with others.”

In September 2023, after looking through his girlfriend’s iPad without permission, Burke discovered nude photographs sent to other people before they began dating, a press release said.

"Burke became enraged by what he discovered and sent the nude pictures to several people; including his mother and one of the victim’s coworkers," the release said.

After kicking Burke out of the residence, his now ex-girlfriend began the process of changing the locks to the residence. As this was happening, Burke returned to the residence and attempted to force his way inside after claiming he had left his “medication” in a box under his ex-girlfriend’s son’s bed, the release said.

The “medicine” inside the box turned out to be 88 fentanyl pills and drug paraphernalia.

A warrant went out for Burke’s arrest.

Prior to his arrest, Burke called his ex-girlfriend and left threatening voicemails indicating she could lose her job and kids if she didn’t speak with him because he still had possession of her pictures and was going to send them to her employer and ex-husband, the release said.

As a result, Burke was charged with witness intimidation. When Burke was arrested on his warrant, he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and more fentanyl, the release said.
