CAUCUS: Some pros but more cons

| March 13, 2024 1:00 AM

Now that Idaho’s latest caucus is behind us (March 2), it is interesting to read the different takes on this recent change in what our present leaders of the Republican Party are doing. Was it a success?

According to Brent Regan and the official KCRCC position it was; according to others it was not. In speaking with friends and neighbors, again one gets mixed reviews.

Overall, it is challenging to find those who feel this is a great change in the best interests of all voters. Many I spoke with were confused about the change, and a bit resentful on how it limited the ability of some voters to participate.

I have discovered that each caucus was held a bit differently. Some just had folk show up and vote; others had the opportunity to discuss issues and candidates. No one seemed sure just what to expect or what to do, besides vote.

My personal caucus was just an opportunity to cast a vote; no discussion of any kind was instigated. Our precinct representatives, whom many of us voters had not ever heard from or met, had to be pointed out. Questions as to why some of us did not receive cards ahead of time went unanswered. As to why we lost our primary to go to this caucus, again no one seemed sure.

I do know that many do not like this direction, and regardless of what the KCRCC tells us, it is NOT in the voters’ best interest to make this change. If precinct representatives voted to go this direction, maybe it’s time to change them as well.

Demand to allow for full representation of everyone’s views, not just the KCRCC’s ideology and agenda.
