NIC SOFTBALL: Cardinals take two to wrap NWAC crossover

PASCO, Wash. — Madelynne Hommell and Kani Korok homered and four others had two RBIs each for North Idaho College in a 15-6 win over Lower Columbia College of Longview, Wash., in a NWAC crossover game at the Pasco Sporting Complex on Sunday.

Kaylee Vieria, Hayden Rockwell, Emily Schulhauser and Faith Nichols each had two RBIs for NIC, which also got nine strikeouts from Kristine Schmidt, a freshman from Coeur d’Alene High, in the win.

NIC concluded the tournament with a 4-0 win over Centralia.

Taylor Thomas, Summer Makinster and Haydyn Yamaguchi each homered for NIC against Centralia.

“We were able to score a lot of runs this weekend,” said NIC coach Shay Chapman, whose team scored 58 runs in going 3-1. “Everyone got a chance to play, which was really good for us.”

Freshman Jaylyn Christensen had eight strikeouts in the win over Centralia for NIC (8-2), which opens conference play against Treasure Valley on Friday in Ontario, Ore.
