St. Patrick's Day celebrations coming up

| March 9, 2024 1:00 AM

COEUR d'ALENE — The Coeur d'Alene Public Library is going Irish.

On St. Patrick's Day, Sunday, March 17, the library will have music, trivia and more with an Irish theme in the Library Community Room. It starts at 1 p.m.

Local band Arvid Lundin and Deep Roots will kick off the party with traditional Irish folk music and a bit of Irish history. Enjoy a wee taste of the Irish and test your knowledge on all things Irish by participating in Irish trivia for a chance to win a prize.

There are several other St. Patrick's Day celebrations coming up.

All Things Irish, 315 Sherman Ave., is having its 12th annual "Best Legs in a Kilt Contest" at 3 p.m. today. Men, women and children are welcome.

Contestants will be judged in several areas, including appearance of legs beneath the kilt, how you walk and make the kilt sway and impression of stature in a kilt.

The winner will receive a "Certificate of Declaration" with honors as "Best Legs in a Kilt for 2024" and a gift certificate to All Things Irish.

Coeur d'Irish by the Rotary Club of Coeur d'Alene is scheduled 6 p.m. March 16 at The Coeur d'Alene Resort. It will include Irish dancers, food, whiskey, drinks, games and live music by Deep Roots.

The cuisine includes an Irish sandwich station, Irish lamb stew with an Irish potato waffle and an Irish pub salad bar.

Tickets are $50 and can be purchased at www.eventbrite.com.

There will also be a drawing for a six-night trip for two to Ireland. Tickets are $50 and only 500 will be sold.

The green theme continues with the 19th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 3 p.m. March 16, organized by the Coeur d'Alene Downtown Association in partnership with Idaho Central Credit Union. The parade theme is Green and Gold. It generally includes dancers, leprechauns, Irish wolf hounds, flag bearers and music.

It's scheduled to start at 3 p.m. at Eighth and Sherman and travel west to First Street. A few hundred people, many wearing green coats, shirts and hats, come out to cheer for about 30 parade entries.
