Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy Drama's production of "The Drowsy Chaperone" opens at 7 tonight in the school's multipurpose room.

A play by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, "The Drowsy Chaperone" is based on the book by Bob Martin and Dan McKellar.

The show is directed by drama instructor Dana Fleming with musical direction by Henry DePew, Suzie Ratelle and Carrington Rinehart.

"Probably one of the coolest features of the show is the pit orchestra is performed and led by students," Fleming said. "State champion percussionist and senior Henry DePew is directing his second pit orchestra for our program — he directed 'Camelot' last year."

Admission is $5 for students, $10 for general admission and $20 for VIP front row seats.

"The Drowsy Chaperone" pays tribute to the jazz-age shows of the 1920s and the power those shows held to transport audiences into a dazzling fantasy and to lift spirits in times of sadness.

This show has a PG rating for innuendo and mild language.

"The Drowsy Chaperone" plays through March 16.

Tickets are available online at cdacharter.org, or at the door, cash or check only.

Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy is at 4904 N. Duncan Drive, Coeur d'Alene.

Tytan Reynolds takes centerstage during a rehearsal of "The Drowsy Chaperone," opening at 7 tonight at Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy.
