BROOKINGS, S.D. — Former Lake City High standout Carter Gordon won the 800 meters for Lewis-Clark State College on Saturday, the final day of competition at the 2024 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships.

Gordon, a junior, showed off his closing speed to win the second 800m national title in program history.

Gordon showed off his kick in the final meters of the 800. He was in the middle of the pack for most of the race before passing the group in the final strides to join Clayton VanDyke as the only two Warrior men to win titles at the distance. Gordon ran the second-best time in school history at 1 minute, 51.00 seconds.

Gordon, a 2020 Lake City grad, was seeded fourth out of 24 runners coming into this meet.

Gordon was also part of the 4x800 relay team who made it to the finals and placed eighth to earn All-American medals. Gordon teamed with Griffen Parcells, Cooper Carlson and Connor May.
