Shirley Ann Deitz, 88

Shirley, age 88, passed away peacefully June 24, 2024, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. She was born July 21, 1935, in Rathdrum, Idaho, where the Coeur d’Alene airport is located, to Alfred and Anna (Jelsing) Clemetson. Shirley was a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend.

Shirley is survived by her loving daughters, Cheryl (Bob Cameron), Leeann (Brett Kimball) and Janice Deitz. She is also survived by her siblings, Delores Meade and Lavina Dooley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Deitz; her daughter, Teresa (Ken Chariton); and her siblings, Lester Arden Clemetson, Alvira Agee and Leroy Clemetson.

Shirley was a proud grandmother to 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She cherished her family and shared many wonderful memories with them throughout her life.

Shirley achieved many professional milestones, becoming the first female detective in Kootenai County and later serving as Kootenai County clerk. She was deeply involved in her community, teaching 4-H and being an active member of Kiwanis and Soroptimist International. Her dedication to public service and community involvement touched the lives of many.

Shirley faithfully attended Dalton Gardens Church of Christ and enjoyed gathering with her ladies group, forming deep and lasting friendships. She had a deep love for her Norwegian heritage and found great joy in cooking, especially making Lefsa, a traditional Norwegian flatbread, which she loved sharing with family and friends.

She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and unwavering love for her family and friends. Shirley's warm spirit and gentle nature left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

A service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 8, 2024, at Dalton Gardens Church of Christ, 6439 N. Fourth St., Dalton Gardens, ID 83815, with a public viewing at 10 a.m. A graveside will follow the service at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens, 7315 N. Government Way. A reception will be held at the Church of Christ following the burial. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of North Idaho — 2290 W. Prairie Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815.

Shirley will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
