LEGION BASEBALL: Lums suffer first loss at Selah tourney

SELAH, Wash. — The Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen suffered their first loss of the Emily Harris Memorial Tournament on Friday, falling 3-0 to the Yakima Valley Pepsi Pak at Archer Stadium.  

Nolan Christ went 2 for 3 for Coeur d’Alene (11-10), which fell to 2-1 in tourney play, and saw its five-game winning streak end. 

The Lums face the West Plains Cannons 18U of Medical Lake today at 5 p.m. as tourney play continues.

Northern Lakes drops league contest to Orofino 

SPIRIT LAKE — The visiting Merchants broke a 1-1 tie with nine runs in the top of the seventh inning of the opener and went on to beat the Mountaineers 10-1 in a class A North Idaho League game at Timberlake High’s John Shaffer Field. 

Northern Lakes (15-6, 11-2 NIL) won the nonleague second game 10-6. 

In the first game, Caleb Mason’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth tied the game at 1-1 for Northern Lakes.  

Blake Barlow and Aiden Olive each hit two-run singles in the seventh for Orofino. 

Grant Allaway went 3 for 4 for the Mountaineers. 

In the second game, Mason’s two-run single keyed a six-run sixth inning the put Northern Lakes ahead 10-5. Ethan Pecor and James Moore each had two hits and scored twice. 

Northern Lakes plays the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen 17U team on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Thorco Field.
