What She Said...Back! coming to the JACC

| June 28, 2024 1:00 AM

LoveDog! Media will present the newest Divas concert, “What She Said … Back!,” a musical toast and roast to the 1950s during performances at 7 p.m. July 12 and 3 p.m. July 13 at the Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center.

Acclaimed vocalist/producer Sandra Marlowe and award-winning actress/director Gaye Kruger Ribble have crafted a captivating show, sharing the stage with Robin Hambey, Carol Davis, Beth Rainey, Kim Plewniak and Sophia Johnson. With class and sass, these “divas” will engage and entertain an audience in cabaret style, performing solos, duets and trios in five musical genres all while paying homage to the 1950s and “talking back” with humor to the stereotypes of the day.

"This show is a mini-retrospective of the magic, romance and sometimes downright silliness of music from the 1950s," Marlowe said Wednesday. "People love the music and the images of the day it brings to mind. I think it’s the catchy sweetness of lyrics, the predictable harmonies and recognizable rhythms and the simpler times that the music portrayed. Of course, the cultural conditioning and social mores of the times were limiting, what we might consider laughable now, especially for women."

The two-hour show will combine humor, nostalgia and a bit of irreverence delivered with authenticity, Marlowe said.

The audience will be invited to participate and win Diva swag.

Tickets range from $30-$50.
