| June 27, 2024 1:20 AM

SANDPOINT — Caleb Mason singled to score James Moore with the go-ahead run with one out in the top of the seventh inning as the Northern Lakes Mountaineers rallied to beat the North Idaho Lakers 4-3 in a class A North Idaho League game at Memorial Field on Wednesday.

“We’re very evenly matched,” Northern Lakes coach Bryce Johnson said. “We’ve had some classics with them the last few years and tonight was really a blood pressure kind of evening.”

Sage Medeiros singled to score M. Little to give North Idaho a 1-0 lead in the first inning. The Lakers added two runs on an error to make it 3-0 after the first.

Mason put Northern Lakes on the scoreboard with an RBI double, also scoring Moore in the third inning. Evan Shanley tied the game at 3-3 with an RBI single later in the frame.

Taylor struck out six in the first game for Northern Lakes.

In the second game, Ethan Pecor singled to score Taylor, one of his three RBIs in the game as the Mountaineers beat the Lakers 4-3 in 8 innings in a nonleague game.

Pecor also had a two-run single in the first inning for Northern Lakes (14-5, 11-1 NIL), which hosts Orofino in a doubleheader on Friday at Timberlake High starting at 11 a.m.
