LEGION BASEBALL: Lums drop opener at Ellensburg tourney

ELLENSBURG, Wash. —  Isaac Ziegler’s RBI double in the top of the fifth inning scored Kolbe Coey and tied the game at 2-2 for Coeur d’Alene, but the Merchants Elite 18U of King County, Washington, scored once in the bottom of the fifth and once in the sixth to trip the Lumbermen 4-2 at Central Washington University in their first game of the East Side Collide on Friday. 

Travis Usdrowski doubled in Chase Saunders in the fourth inning to put Coeur d’Alene up 1-0. 

Justin Scott went 2 for 3 for Merchants Elite, and his run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth drove in the go-ahead run. Isak Haverlock struck out three, walked two and allowed four hits for the winners. 

Nate Weatherhead struck out two, walked none and allowed two runs on two hits in four innings for the Lums.

Today, Coeur d’Alene (6-8) plays the Kings Baseball Club 15U at 10:30 a.m., and the Expos-Norden 16U at 3:30 p.m., both at CWU.
