Kootenai Shoshone Soil and Water Conservation District awarded $98K grant

| June 22, 2024 1:00 AM

The Kootenai Shoshone Soil and Water Conservation District announced Thursday it has been awarded a $98,000 Best Management Practice Grant through Idaho Department of Environmental Quality.

The funds will be used to purchase and start a no-till drill rental program. The conservation district has been working on this program for several years.

The grant would not be possible without the sponsorship of Kootenai Shoshone Soil and Water Conservation District Chair Laurin Scarcello, district treasurer Wes Evans and district associate supervisor John Mobbs, along with the Aquifer Protection Board, according to a press release.

The district will have a similar no-till drill on site June 28-29 at the Modern Homesteading Conference at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds. Community members are welcome to stop by the booth to learn more about the program and add their names to the list to rent the no-till drill.

The Kootenai Shoshone Soil and Water Conservation District Board meets the second Wednesday of each month at 9 a.m. at 7830 Meadowlark Way, Suite C-1, Coeur d'Alene.
