POST FALLS — A construction project at the Post Falls Dam is creating parking headaches here. The projects has resulted in several parking areas being blocked.

“All of our parks will be open, but parking will be a challenge this summer,” city administrator Shelly Enderud said.

The River City Market and Music series will mark the beginning of a busy summer events season and could provide the blueprint for how the city will mitigate the decrease in available parking spots.

Enderud suggested that the city lot could be an option for attendees since City Hall is closed by the time the market and music series opens. However, she expressed concern for those with mobility issues. "It's not very far to walk, but some people have challenges when walking, especially when it's hot," Enderud said.

The Post Falls Chamber of Commerce has secured assistance from Post Falls Family Dental Center and Roger's Burgers, allowing eventgoers to use their parking lots after 5 p.m. Chamber president and CEO Christina Petit also noted that parking at the chamber lot is available during the series.

Buses will be running to transport people to Landing Park on Fourth Avenue, where the events take place.

For the market specifically, the chamber has obtained permission from the landowners next to Landing Park, allowing vendors to park near their setup areas. Petit called this a "huge win" for the series, which runs from July 17 through Aug. 21.

"Every year, it grows a little bit. On a slow night, it's 400-500, but I've seen 600-700, and we expect an even bigger turnout despite the parking challenges," Petit said. "We'll just continue working with our fellow businesses and neighbors and make sure we can keep these events happening for Post Falls."
