Marion L. Keating, age 93, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, passed away peacefully at the Life Care Center of Coeur d’Alene on April 26, 2024.

Marion was born April 11, 1931, in Caledonia, Minn., to John Midby and Lydia (Lehrer) Midby. She was raised on a farm, attended country school for eight years and graduated from Caledonia High School. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and attended Sunday School and Luther League.

After high school graduation, Marion worked in Caledonia, Rochester, Minn., and Florida before heading west in 1957 to Glacier National Park, where she worked for a number of years, both at the park and at Glacier’s winter office in St. Paul.  At Two Medicine Lake in Glacier, Marion met a charming college professor, Warren (Squirt) Keating, from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, who became the love of her life. They were married in 1962 and made their home in Coeur d’Alene. Marion worked at Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene for 20 years and continued to assist in the church office for the next 10 years.

Marion enjoyed spending time at their cabin on Hayden Lake, returning to Glacier National Park and its majestic mountains, visiting family in Minnesota and California and going on several cruises along with working in her garden and sharing her jars of raspberry jam. She always had time for the family dogs and kitties.

Over the years, Marion served on numerous boards and committees, participated in Bible studies and enjoyed her participation with Trinity Lutheran Church Women.  Marion was always available to lend a caring ear, support and encourage several godchildren, and support the ministry of Trinity Lutheran Church in many ways.

Marion was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her older sister, Lucille and Lucille’s husband, Les Thompson. She is survived by her sister, Janice (John) Burgert of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; nephews and niece: Phil (Beth) Thompson of Deer River, Minn.; Cindy Bultena of Helena, Mont.; Paul (Connie) Thompson of Racine, Minn.; and Bruce (Connie) Thompson of Stewartville, Minn.; along with numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

Her family extends their thanks and gratefulness to Trinity Lutheran Church and Life Care Center of Coeur d’Alene for their love, care and support of Marion.
