| June 18, 2024 1:00 AM

COEUR d'ALENE — The Human Rights Education Institute has scheduled the annual Juneteenth Leadership Panel and Community Conversation on Wednesday.

This year’s panel discussion will include community issues such as extremism, racial and social inequity, claims of education indoctrination, community policing, sex and drug trafficking and other issues "causing incivility in our region," a press release said.

Citizen and student guests have been invited to share personal stories of related situations that have impacted them.

The panel will include representation from city leadership, local law enforcement, members of regional tribes, business and nonprofit leaders, educators and high school and college students from North Idaho.

The free program begins at 10 a.m. with coffee and conversation at HREI, 414 W. Fort Grounds Drive. The chili tasting begins at 11, followed by the community panel at 11:30. A freedom walk/vigil will begin at 5:30 p.m. and end at HREI with a celebration of music.

On Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a camp is scheduled at HREI for young people on the history of Juneteenth and human rights.
