LEGION BASEBALL: Lums fall in Church tourney; Northern Lakes wins on walk-off

LEWISTON — Ty Shepard and Travis Usdrowski had two hits and an RBI each for the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen in an 11-7 loss to River City Athletics of Kennewick, Wash., in the Dwight Church Memorial Tournament on Saturday at Harris Field.

Coeur d’Alene opened the scoring in the top of the first inning as Nolan Christ scored on a passed ball to give the Lums a 1-0 lead. Coeur d’Alene tied it in the top of the fifth as Shepard singled and scored to tie the game at 2-2. Shepard gave Coeur d’Alene a 4-3 lead on an RBI single, scoring Isaac Ziegler. Mark Holecek made it 5-3 on a wild pitch and Usdrowski doubled to score Shepard to make it 6-3.

River City rallied to tie the game on a passed ball then regained the lead on a sacrifice fly in an eight-run sixth.

Coeur d’Alene concludes the tournament today.

BOZEMAN, Mont. — Eric Wylie hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Mountaineers in a 7-6 win over the Missoula Mavericks at the Howard Rein Tournament.

Caleb Mason, who scored on Wylie’s single, tied the game in the ninth on an RBI single to score Cooper Lenz. Lenz tied the game at 4-4 with two out in the seventh, scoring on a wild pitch.

Earlier, Grant Allaway had two RBIs for the Mountaineers, who fell to the Billings Cardinals 23-3.

Northern Lakes (7-2), now 2-1 in the tournament, faces the Bozeman Bucks today at noon.
