An ATV crash Wednesday in Shoshone County involved injuries to two people and required Life Flight and Two Bear Air to receive access to medical care, according to a social media release by the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office.

A male and female rider were heading toward the Middle Sister Fire Lookout Tower on an ATV and hit a large patch of snow near the top.

The male tried to turn around and accidentally accelerated, causing the ATV to go up the wall. The ATV flipped and fell on both of them.

According to the sheriff’s office, one rider had a shoulder injury and potentially sustained a broken collarbone, and the other rider possibly had a punctured lung and cracked sternum.

Life Flight landed at the tower and began medical care for the male rider but was unable to move him to the helicopter. Deputies on the SCSO backwoods team hiked into the location and assisted with the situation. Two Bear Air arrived and were able to hoist them to the Life Flight helicopter.

Last weekend, a fatal ATV crash took place near Lake Gulch Road.
