Kellogg hopes to grow Fourth of July celebration

KELLOGG — The city of Kellogg is making a concerted effort to revive its annual Fourth of July celebration.

After years of hit-or-miss events, Kellogg community planner Monica Miller has put together a plan that she hopes will revitalize the holiday in the Silver Valley.

“Consistent Fourth of July participation is tough for a couple reasons,” Miller said. “Part of it is that North Idaho summers are short and people want to soak up every minute of them, usually at their favorite river or lake spot. Another element is that, historically, Fourth of July celebrations have not been held regularly. People want annual, recurring events they can rely on.”

This year, Kellogg is beefing up its Fourth of July schedule, complete with live music, an outdoor movie night, as well as several events throughout the city for people to attend.

With the holiday landing on a weekday, Miller is hoping that by adding a few events to the night of July 3, people may be enticed to spend a long weekend in Kellogg.

Kicking off the event on the night before Independence Day, Teeters Field will host the Cosmic Wagon Band at 6 p.m., followed by the family-friendly outdoor movie.

Once the Fourth of July hits, it’s a jam-packed schedule that includes a 4K race, a vendor fair in the city park, a pie-eating contest, the annual Fourth of July parade and many more activities before capping off the day with the Silver Mountain Fireworks Show.
