Braver Lens to present 'Canine Bridge' Saturday at ArtWalk

Organizers of a dog-centric photography project are hoping to build human connections.

Presented by Braver Lens, a part of the Braver Angels national nonprofit, the "Canine Bridge" pop-up photo exhibit will be on display during a special ArtWalk from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot between Magpie and the Art Spirit Gallery.

The central question of Canine Bridge is, "What quality in your dog would you like to see in people?" Using only phone cameras, Better Lens members captured 24 spontaneous canine images that will be on display in 12 panels to explore qualities including unconditional love, acceptance, friendship and more.

"We want our dogs, our furry little friends, to be a bridge to great conversations and better relationships," Amy Hebert, a main exhibit organizer, said Thursday. "We just wanted to bring this as a springboard for conversation and a way for bringing hope."

She said the project was created to promote those positive traits so often found in canines.

"We want to inspire and invite people to take these qualities for themselves and share them in their own communities," she said. "We want Coeur d'Alene to be known as a place of good things, not always be in the news for all these things that bring us down."

Joe Beans Barkery coffee shop and pet bakery will be on site as well as live music.

Braver Angels is a cross-partisan, volunteer-led movement to bridge the partisan divide. Through community gatherings and grassroots leaders working together, the organization aims to create hope and connectivity across the U.S.

The Art Spirit is at 415 Sherman Ave., Coeur d'Alene.
