| June 14, 2024 1:10 AM

Three Lake City Timberwolves were named to the 5A first team as the all-Idaho high school baseball teams were announced recently by The Idaho Statesman newspaper of Boise.

Senior pitcher Cooper Reese, senior catcher Cooper Smith and junior outfielder Jack Pierce were honored.

Reese, who signed with New Mexico State, was 5-1 with a 1.32 ERA this season, with 62 strikeouts in 42 innings.

Smith, headed to Scottsdale (Ariz.) Community College, hit .426 with two homers and 25 RBIs — numbers which would have been higher had he not been walked 33 times.

Pierce batted .377.

Coeur d’Alene senior pitcher Aidan Blanco was named to the 3A second team.

Timberlake pitcher Caden Robinett and senior infielder Grant Allaway were named to the 3A second team.

Moscow coach Griffin Rod, who played at Lake City, was named 4A Coach of the Year. Rod guided the Bears to their first state title in 40 years.

Moscow senior pitcher Levi Anderson was named to the first team, and junior pitcher Butch Kiblen, junior infielder JP Breese and senior outfielder Jamison Green of the Bears were named to the second team.

Scott Tondevold, who guided Orofino to its first state title since 2014, was named 2A coach of the year.

First-team picks from the Central Idaho League in 2A were Grangeville senior pitcher Sam Lindsley, Orofino junior pitcher Aiden Olive and Orofino senior catcher Silas Naranjo.

Second-team picks from the CIL were junior pitcher David Goicoa and senior infielder Cody Klement of Grangeville, and senior infielder Bodey Howell of Orofino.

Coaches statewide vote for the all-state teams; The Statesman publishes the results.
