LEGION BASEBALL: Northern Lakes outslugs Coeur d'Alene U17

| June 12, 2024 1:10 AM

SPIRIT LAKE — Evan Shanley went 4 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored for the Northern Lakes Mountaineers, who scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning to beat the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen 17U team 15-10 in a class A North Idaho League game on Tuesday at Timberlake High’s John Shaffer Field.

“The wind was something I haven’t seen before,” Northern Lakes coach Bryce Johnson said. “It was blowing 35 miles an hour and the ball was carrying in the air. It was a wild one. It was fun to watch. The elements weren’t very normal for North Idaho.”

Caleb Mason had two hits, two runs scored and three RBIs for Northern Lakes (5-0), which travels to the Howard Rein Tournament in Bozeman, Mont., on Friday, facing the Sheridan Jets and Bozeman Bucks.

“The bottom of our lineup just had some very timely hits,” Johnson said. “We’ve been able to swing it early and our approaches at the plate have been pretty good. It was good to see our kids fight through it and keep putting runs on the board.”

Aven Adams, Will Robson and Vinny Lapresta drove in two runs each for Coeur d’Alene (7-6), which faces the North Idaho Lakers senior team tonight at 5:30 at Memorial Field in Sandpoint.
