POST FALLS — Phase one park improvements to Black Bay Park in Post Falls are currently underway to add visitor features and counter environmental wear and tear among the park landscape.

The Post Falls Parks and Recreation Department noted the completion of several spring projects and others currently being implemented in upcoming weeks and months.

Post Falls park planner Robbie Quinn said the spring projects began with adding protection to the trail along the waterline.

“There's a few different places where erosion is taking place where we've had a lot of erosion with the wave actions from the river,” Quinn said.

The erosion control project and a restoration project to the area around the nose of the bay are now complete.

Natural boulders have been added to the upper lawn area of Black Bay and Quinn said the plan is to have a future play area for the kids when the park changes are complete. An old retaining wall that was failing has been removed and replaced and regrading has been implemented to deal with some of the drainage issues at the park.

The trail down to the waterline has been replaced to meet ADA grade requirements and work to construct a picnic shelter has just begun.

The boardwalk project has been delayed due to the water levels impeding progress.

“That's probably going to be pushed to this fall and winter,” Quinn said.
