City building, police equipment destroyed in fire in Coeur d'Alene

COEUR dALENE - A city building was destroyed in a fire Sunday morning.

About 30 firefighters from Coeur d'Alene and Kootenai County Fire and Rescue responded to the two-alarm blaze about 5 a.m.

The fully involved structure fire was in a police ancillary building on the city shop campus, according to a press release from the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department.

The building was the home of code enforcement, animal control and the police department's IT division. It also housed the department's special team's equipment including the SWAT Bearcat vehicle and incident command trailer.

No injuries were reported. It took about nearly four hours to extinguish the fire, the release said.

The police department is working to determine the value of the loss from the fire.

The Idaho State Fire Marshal's Office is leading the investigation into the cause of the fire.
