ANNIVERSARY

Henry and Jeanne Netzer

50th Anniversary

Henry and Jeanne were married on June 9, 1974, in Oshkosh, Wis., shortly after his graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. They then embarked on a Navy career which included his nuclear propulsion training in California and Idaho; assignment to the USS HAWKBILL, SSN 666 in Hawaii; then shore duty in Groton, Conn. After seven years on active duty, Henry transferred to the Navy Reserve for an additional 13 years, retiring as a Navy Captain. He worked for the Navy as a civilian research engineer in Connecticut and later at the Lake Pend Oreille facility in Bayview. They made Hayden their home since 1990.

Jeanne is a University of Wisconsin, Madison, graduate in physical therapy and served in clinics and hospitals in Maryland, California, Hawaii and Connecticut while also being a tremendous mother. They are the proud parents of a daughter, Carolyn (Jhar Fuller) and two sons, Andy (Ashley) and Mike (Veronica), who have blessed them with a dozen grandchildren (Will, Kellie, Bryce, Leila, Evangeline, Soleil, Brugh, Isla, Brooks, Elliott, Shepard and Scout) who live in Idaho, Illinois and Texas.

Henry and Jeanne have each engaged in short-term mission work supporting friends in Brazil (Henry) and Ethiopia (Jeanne).

After retiring from his Navy work, Henry and Jeanne continue to be active in the leadership of their Coeur d’Alene Church and service on the USS IDAHO Commissioning Foundation, as well as keeping up with the grandkids. The Netzers have recently visited Connecticut for the Christening of the USS IDAHO and plan to return to Annapolis for a 50th-year graduation reunion.

They, along with their immediate family, plan to celebrate this milestone in July with a commemorative dinner in Coeur d’Alene followed by a family trip to Glacier National Park.

Rick and Janna Scharf

50th Anniversary

Rick Scharf and Janna Rankin met as teenagers in Coeur d’Alene while cruising Sherman Avenue during spring break in 1972. On a whim, Rick and a friend decided to drive across the border for a first-time visit to the USA from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. They approached Janna’s car full of girlfriends near her house at Ninth and Sherman and followed them up and down Sherman until they stopped for gas at 13th Street. The rest is history.

They were married on June 15, 1974, in the Cardston, Alberta, Canada, temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their first apartment was the second floor of the historic J. C. White house at Eighth and Sherman, which was moved in 2019 to the foot of Tubbs Hill south of City Hall, to become the Museum of North Idaho.

Over the course of their 50 years of marriage, Rick’s corporate jobs moved them to Spokane; Honolulu, Hawaii; Anchorage, Alaska; Omaha, Neb.; Raleigh, N.C.; Fort Collins, Colo.; and Hayden. In 1988, Rick achieved his dream of becoming a naturalized U.S. citizen and you won’t find a more patriotic, grateful, proud American than him. They currently reside in Highland Park Estates in Post Falls where Rick is beyond delighted to have a golf course out his back door.

Janna and Rick work as a real estate team at Keller Williams Realty Coeur d’Alene, where Janna serves as Associate Broker and Rick heads the Commercial Division. Janna first obtained her real estate license in 1978. Rick joined Janna in real estate 10 years ago after his retirement from the corporate world. Janna and Rick continue to find much personal satisfaction in guiding their friends and clients to success with their real estate investment goals.

Rick and Janna are the parents of five children, two awesome daughters-in-law and three exceptional grandchildren. They’re looking forward to a family celebration in Florida later this summer.

Larry and Gena Major
