PRIDE: We choose love

| June 7, 2024 1:00 AM

We were extremely distressed to read the many Letters to the Editor protesting Coeur d’Alene’s recent Pride celebration. Many of the writers stated that this event did not represent Coeur d’Alene. We disagree! Diversity and inclusiveness certainly represent the attitudes of the people in Coeur d’Alene that we know, love, and for whom we have the greatest respect. The question for all of those protesting Pride is, wouldn’t it serve humanity and our faith better to love without judgment? Look across the world today and see what hatred and divisiveness has wrought. We think Senator Cory Booker stated it best. “Don’t speak to me about your religion; first show it to me in how you treat other people. Don’t tell me how much you love your God; show me in how much you love all God’s children. Don’t preach to me your passion for your faith; teach me through your compassion for your neighbors. In the end, I’m not as interested in what you have to tell or sell as I am in how you choose to live and give.” As do the majority of people in Coeur d’Alene, we choose love.
