Art on Wheels painting exhibit to be on display during Car d'Lane
The gallery at Magpie gift boutique at 423 E. Sherman Ave. in downtown Coeur d’Alene will feature an exhibit of exciting paintings celebrating old cars during the month of June.
Local artist Doreen Graham will be painting live all day during Car d’Lane on June 15, just outside the boutique and later at the Art Walk that evening.
The Art on Wheels paintings feature bold color, interesting perspectives and, of course, lots of chrome! Car enthusiasts will enjoy this exhibit as a supplement to the annual Car d’Lane event. Many might recognize some of Graham's subjects — many of the cars she portrays have been participants in local shows.
Graham’s love for vintage car design is clearly shown in her handling of small details, chrome and eye-catching reflections. She drove a 1965 Ford Thunderbird in high school, used a 1937 Chevrolet in her wedding and attended a car show in Port Townsend, Wash., on her first anniversary. That love was later translated into art when she picked up her tools again after homeschooling her children. Having married into a car show family, her interest naturally flourished. She is a self-taught artist.
Graham was one of the recent winners of the Jack Bannon Fund for the Arts and newly juried into membership with the International Guild of Realism. She currently has an exhibit, "For the Love of Trees," at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library during the month of June.
