PRIDE: Event doesn’t represent Coeur d’Alene

| June 5, 2024 1:00 AM

Five years ago, we decided to move from our beautiful home overlooking the Oregon coast to the Coeur d’Alene area. One reason was political as North Idaho had the reputation of supporting conservative values, our values. After a couple of visits, we purchased a home in Rathdrum. When entering the state on I-90, the sign seemed not only to say Welcome to Idaho but welcome to the USA.

With this introduction I was astonished by the headline, “Coeur d’Alene celebrates Pride in the Park.” This article clearly represents the opinion of Kaye Thornburgh and the Coeur d’Alene/Post Falls Press but to suggest that it represents the values of Coeur d’Alene at large is tantamount to journalistic malpractice.

There is no medical, scientific or theological evidence that supports the LGBTQ+ movement to be compatible with conventional morality. This statement clearly opens us up to the homophobic label, a relative new term invented to attack those following a moral compass when no factual argument exists.

We enjoy shopping and dining in downtown Coeur d’Alene but after witnessing a previous Pride event at The Resort choose not to do so during the month of June. Further, we are saddened when young families with children choose downtown Coeur d’Alene as a vacation destination in June and are confronted by the lewd behavior on the streets, lake, parks and beaches.
