DEFAMATION: Trial exposed bigotry

| June 5, 2024 1:00 AM

The recent $1.1 million verdict in favor of the drag performer who sued blogger Summer Bushnell for defamation is a sobering reminder of the depths of deceit and bigotry present in some circles.

Bushnell’s actions were not only malicious but also calculated, driven by a toxic blend of hatred and spite. Her unfounded accusations not only smeared Eric Posey’s name but also endangered his safety, all to further her own agenda.

What’s truly astonishing is Bushnell’s brazenness in proudly displaying the videos on her website and social media, seemingly reveling in the havoc wrought upon Posey’s life.

Bushnell’s feeble “honest belief” defense is laughable, highlighting her stubborn commitment to falsehoods despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Equally troubling is the complicity of Bushnell’s like-minded friends, who prioritize perpetuating hate over seeking justice.

As Posey rightfully celebrates the vindication brought by the jury’s verdict, we must recognize the broader implications of this case. It underscores the insidiousness of bigotry and the urgent need to confront it wherever it manifests.

Amidst this darkness, the North Idaho Pride Alliance’s steadfast support for Posey and the LGBTQ+ community shines as a beacon of hope.
