Coeur d'Alene School District recognizes 60 students for perfect AP exam scores

The Coeur d’Alene School District recently celebrated 60 high school students who earned at least one perfect score on their Advanced Placement exams in the 2023-24 academic year.

"These exceptional students mastered challenging subjects from calculus to literature, biology to history, with dedication and resilience," the school district said in a Monday news release. "Celebrating student achievement and excellence is one of the most rewarding things we do."

Teachers at Coeur d’Alene and Lake City high schools, along with district administrators, delivered yard signs to each high-scoring student’s home July 18 to honor these young scholars.

The AP program, known for its college-level rigor, is offered at Coeur d'Alene and Lake City high schools. A five is a perfect score on an AP exam. In the 2023-24 academic year, 17% of all students in the district who took the AP exam earned a perfect score, and 72% earned a score of three or higher. Eleven students received two perfect scores, seven received three perfect scores, three received four perfect scores and four earned five perfect scores. A perfect score is significant because it requires students to master the subject at the highest level.

“Our students continue to amaze us with their commitment to learning and their pursuit of excellence,” Mike Nelson, deputy superintendent of the Coeur d’Alene School District, said in the news release. “Achieving a perfect score on an AP exam is no small feat, and these students have set a high standard for their peers. We celebrate their success and look forward to witnessing their continued growth."

About one-third of the 60 scholars were seniors and have now graduated from high school. These students will move forward on their educational journeys where their AP scores can be used for credit advancement and career and scholarship opportunities.
