Pinehurst Days this weekend

PINEHURST — The annual Pinehurst Days festival is this weekend, and the Pinehurst/Kingston Lions have a stacked card ready for eventgoers.

Each year, the festival works around a central theme, with 2024 being a “Salute to Community Volunteers.”

“We want to salute all of the folks that make our communities great by volunteering to serve others,” P/K Lions President Brad Kitchen said, “from Scout masters, coaches, to clean-up crews and more. We want to make volunteerism and citizenship cool again.”

Kicking things off Friday will be a bustling vendor fair. A jam-packed Saturday includes the Pinehurst Days Parade, the Comancheros Classic Car Show, live music from Sverwood and then finishing up with the wildly popular Burnouts.

The Burnouts have become the unofficial main event of the festival, as hundreds of people line Silver Valley Road to watch their friends and neighbors lay down as much rubber to create as much smoke as they possibly can.

After years of Burnout events, safety issues forced Pinehurst Days to move away from the event for several years, but in 2019, Nick and Miranda Elam brought the event back.

“There are a lot of things for the whole family to do. That's why I think people look forward to the Burnouts,” Miranda said. “The smell of rubber, the music, concessions and excitement make more people flock to it year after year. Although it is a lot of work, Nick and I are happy to keep this very long Pinehurst Days tradition alive.”
