LEGION BASEBALL: Lums fall in state AA title game

POCATELLO — Mark Holecek singled to score Austin DeBoer to give the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen a 6-5 lead with two outs in the top of the seventh, but the Lums were unable to record an out in the bottom half of the inning, falling to the Pocatello Runnin’ Rebels 7-6 in the championship game of the state AA American Legion baseball tournament at Halliwell Park on Sunday.
Kolbe Coey singled to score Owen Mangini to tie the game at 5-5 in the seventh for Coeur d’Alene, which trailed 5-3 after five innings. Earlier in the frame, DeBoer singled to score Travis Usdrowski to cut the deficit to 5-4.
Pocatello tied the game in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk, then pushed across the winning run as Preston Foltz was hit by a pitch.
Coeur d’Alene, bidding for its first trip to regionals since 1979, finished 22-17.
Pocatello (30-10), which beat Coeur d’Alene in the title game last year at Thorco Field, advances to the Northwest Regional tournament Aug. 7-11 in Billings, Mont.

Coeur d’Alene falls in semifinals of A tourney
LEWISTON — The Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen 17U team had their season come to close on Monday following an 11-6 loss to the Minico Storm in a semifinal game in the state A tournament at Harris Field.
Coeur d’Alene handed the Buhl Tribe its first loss of the tournament on Sunday, winning 8-5 to leave three teams with only one loss.
Later, Minico defeated Buhl 12-5 in the championship game to advance to the Northwest Regional tournament in Roseburg, Ore., Aug. 7-11.
