SHOWCASE GOLF: Coleman, Johnson champions on Day 1

COEUR d’ALENE — Vince Coleman, the former Major League Baseball outfielder, leads with 33 net points after the first day of the 10th annual Showcase golf exhibition at The Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course on Friday.

Coleman, who won last year’s Celeb-Am, won the team title with his team Cure Believers with 82 points after the first day along with Jeanie Wolff, Rita Case and former Post Falls High golf coach Maria Kostina.

This year, celebrities will play 36-holes with their corporate sponsors, with the second round beginning today at 9 a.m.

Worthy Foundation, with former NFL quarterback Brock Osweiler, John Caudill, Jordan Caudill and Rod Burke, was second with 80 points.

The tournament uses a modified Stableford scoring system and crowns a team champion each day.

NHL star, former Spokane Chief and Coeur d’Alene Laker Tyler Johnson is was the net champion with 30 points, followed by Tampa Bay Lightning coach Jon Cooper with 28 points.

Long drive champion Kyle Berkshire, professional golfer Blair O’Neal and Super Bowl XXVI MVP and former Washington State quarterback Mark Rypien are tied for second in the gross scoring with 22 points each.

The tournament concludes today at The Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course.
