LEWISTON — Andy Everson had three hits for the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen 17U in a 10-8 win over the Melba Stallions in the opening round of the state A American Legion baseball tournament at Harris Field on Thursday.

Coeur d’Alene (24-14), which trailed by as many as four runs in the game, will face Mountain Home, the Area B champion today at 4 p.m. in the next round.

POCATELLO — Defending state champion Pocatello beat Hillcrest 18-1 in an opening round game at Halliwell Park, advancing to face the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen in a rematch of last year’s title game played at Thorco Field.

Coeur d’Alene, the second seed in the tournament, had a bye on the first day.

Lewis-Clark, the other Area A team in the tournament, lost 5-4 to the Nampa Chiefs in the other opening round game on Thursday.
