With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Captain Patrick L. Kelly, a dedicated firefighter, husband, father and friend, whose life was a testament to courage, service and unwavering commitment to those who knew him. He passed away peacefully May 26, 2024, surrounded by loved ones, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be cherished.

Born on Sept. 28, 1947, Patrick discovered his calling early in life and dedicated his career to protecting others. He joined the Tacoma Fire Department in 1968, where he served with distinction until 1993. Throughout his tenure, Patrick exemplified bravery and selflessness in the face of danger, responding to countless emergencies with calm resolve and a steadfast determination to save lives.

After retirement, Patrick moved back home to Coeur d'Alene, where he started a successful business with his wife, Sheila, in 1996, and they both retired from Rat Dog Research, LLC in 2008, which is still thriving today. Patrick and Sheila rescued many dogs over the years, including Rat Dog, Casey Brown, Black Jack, Freddie Mac and Tasha Dog. He enjoyed boating on Lake Coeur d'Alene, gardening, family BBQs showing off his famous flank steak and drinking coffee with his pals at a few local bars.

Patrick Kelly is preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Kelly, who was the love of his life. He is survived by his beloved daughters, Tamara Kelly and Genevieve Alexander, sister Dee, grandchildren Jackson, Juliette, Saoirse and Bodie, sisters-in-law Colleen Corcoran and Kelly Crotty-Thurman, brothers-in-law Dan Crotty and Brian Crotty, and friends RaeAnne Capaul, Kyler Brabeck and Lisa Shay. Patrick will be forever missed by so many friends and family.

In honoring Patrick, we recognize a true hero whose courage, sacrifice and unwavering spirit will continue to inspire future generations. May he rest in peace, knowing his legacy lives on in the hearts of those he bravely served.
